From Grasshoppers to… Overcomers!

The 12 spies whom Moses had sent to recon the Promised Land had returned to give their report. Caleb & Joshua said, “let us go up at once and possess it… for we are well able to overcome it”. But, the other 10 cried aloud, “we saw giants… and we were in our own sight as grass-hoppers, and so we were in their sight” (Num 13:30-33)

12 men… with two different reports… why? Two had their eyes fixed on God, on His abilities & His promises, while the rest were focused on their own strengths & disabilities, hence, the conflicting reports.

The result?… the entire people of Israel went with the evil report & cried… and, ultimately forfeited entering the promised land thru their own unbelief. (Hebrews 3:18,19) And, for 40 years they remained in the wilderness & desert… yet, when they finally did enter the land of promise only Caleb & Joshua remained of the original batch. God had remembered & rewarded their faith in Him.

Today it is the same for all of us… with each new day & opportunity before us, we have a choice to follow God’s promise of power & provision or to “see the giants” and our own feeble self esteems & disabilities and refuse to go forward into what may be God’s land of promise.

Many of us have allowed fear instead of faith & love to make our decisions for us… leaving us wandering in deserts of defeat and sameness instead of experiencing God’s plans that elevate & bless us. I have done this time & again… succumbing to fear and refusing to step forward into what may have been a great opportunity for advancement.

What can be done…? One night the Lord showed me the answer in a dream. I was explaining my problem to a man of god and he replied that I could change things… from the inside out. If I would start meditating God’s word… taking His promise that refutes fear and speak it over & over out of my mouth, His word would create a new image within me… and freedom would result.

The word of God reveals in Poverbs 23:7 “as a man thinks in his heart, so is he”. In chpt. 4:23 God says that “out of the heart (where one believes) come the issues or wellsprings of life”. In plain terms, whatever is in our hearts will show up in our lives. We may try to cover it with how we dress, a smile, buying a new car… yet the heart, what is housed inside, is what produces in our lives. If sickness, disease, failure, fear of poverty, etc. is on the inside, it will show on the outside. Change the heart and the life will follow!

Today, let’s make the change… God’s way… by planting His word into the soil of our hearts thereby producing new fruit in our lives that will not only bless us… but those around us may also be blessed. (Mark 4 :30-32)
